Jackson Speaks and Stands

Some major milestones were achieved last weekend. Jackson now says, “Dada” when he sees me and…he was standing on his own a couple of times for about 15 seconds each. Hey, it may be a small about of time but it is a start.

9 1/2 Months at the Tassel Park

Kristen and Jack went on a lunch picnic at Tassel Park today. Kristen was able to catch a number great pictures of Jackson. I really like how his wonderful blue eyes are caught in the photo. Apparently the photo-shoot was rather difficult because Jackson was more interested in pushing his own stroller around the lawn than getting his picture taken.

Jackson Stung By Bee

Yikes! This was a bit of a scary moment. While at Chris and Nicky’s outdoor wedding reception, Jackson was stung or bitten by a bee. Kristen had set him down on the lawn to crawl around and burn off some energy. Jackson crawled a few yards then sat up. Kristen walked over and saw the bee attempted to flick it off. It must have been at that moment the bee bit/stung him.

I say it bit or stung him because we are really sure which. The was no stinger left behind, but most a large welt. It started to swell pretty good too. But the crazy thing is that Jackson didn’t even notice let alone cry. But being better safe-then-sorry, we scrambled over to the local emergency clinic after giving him some baby Benedryl.

Through the entire event he never really crazy and his parent were *way* more frantic than he ever was. About 30 minutes after the bee “encounter”, the welt had faded away and a reddish hue was all that was left.

The doctor said that ususaly it is the second encounter that typically may have folks typically have a reaction to. So if you thought we were paniced this time, yowzers.

Jackson turned 9 months old.

Last week, Jackson turned 9 months old. He is starting to get much more interested in exploring and investigating *everything*. He still really, really enjoys joining me on my morning run on the Cascasde Bike Paths. He only will drop a sock here and there while running, but fellow walkers or jogger are quick to let me know “he’s missing a sock”. He still like to have a bottle in the middle of the night, but lately he has actually been sleeping…..drum roll…..threw the night more frequently. This is without us having to let him cry-it-out or anything like that.

Tuesday, Jackson had his doctor visit and he, of course, was all flirty with the support staff. I can’t remember what his measurements at the moment but I’ll update the post later. I know he was basically in the 70+% percentile for height, weight and head circumference.

Ohhhhhh, and he has his first tooth. Yeah! It is his bottom-right incissor with his left one starting to peek out as well.

Jackson is an expert crawler now and has been cruising for nearly a month now. Crusing is where the child walks using a stablizing objects such as toys, couches, daddy’s pants, etc.

He really hasn’t had any illness, thank God, or anything like that. The only thing he has had some type of reation to is herb hommus. He tends to smear it all over his cheeks while eating it and Kristen noticed the irritation.

So far, we are such lucky parent to have this little guy as our son :-)

Jackson turned 6 months old.

Jackson turned 6 months old yesterday and what a milestone it was.  He is now in “little scientist” mode and trying to grab and study everything. His legs are pretty strong and he really likes to play Push Off and Just Out of Reach games. When the toy is sitting…just…out of reach, you can see his frustration build until he musters his his knee underneath him to….puuuuuush. “He got it! Yeah!!!!!” So much fun :-)

When he wakes at morning’s first light, I scoop him out of his crib. I hold him looking over my shoulder and, out of the corner of my eye, I see a giant grin is on his face. Oh no, it’s not for Daddy. It’s for Ruby who followed me in. Ruby is his buddy and little shadow.

Jack has now tried sweet potatoes, carrots, sweet peas, apples, pears and…..prunes. The prunes are, by far, the most disgusting looking. They taste okay and I personally like prunes. They simply look -literally- like raw sewage. The sweet peas are his favorite and he devours them.

Let’s see, what else….he can grab hard, loves rollie-pollie, only sleeps on his tummy and his butt up in the air, kicks his feet while Daddy jams on guitar, splashes in the bathtub and pacifies himself with thumb-sucking. And finally, tonight, he started sticking his tongue out at mom and I. LOL!

Jackson’s Tummy Sleep

jackson-tummy-sleeping.jpgThis is the second night that Jackson has rolled himself over onto his belly to fall asleep. Lastnight was the very first time that he’s ever slept on his stomach. You’ve got to remember that the pediatricans and all the books are so adamant about forcing infants to sleep on their backs to avoid SIDS. This position is recommended until they can roll over on their own. So, Jackson has now matured to that point but it still makes his parents nervous.  Although Kristen was nervous the entire time, I only started to get nervous when he moved a bit and placed his face straight into the crib mattress. I went and gently flipped him over onto his back which he then immediately rolled right back over onto his belly.  Apparently, he really likes that belly position.

Jackson’s First Owie

Jackson’<p>s First OwieTonight, Mommy was cutting Jackson’s rather long finger nails. Nearly complete, she just need to finish with is pointer finger. Then, in mid snip, wiggley Jackson jerked his little fingers, and the cutter nipped his baby finger tip :-(. He only cried for a second or two. I think Kristen was more traumatized that Jackson.

Messy Morning

This is gross but hilarious. I’m at work and I just received this email from Kristen:

Hey,

I just wanted to share with you that your son officially won the prize this morning for having the biggest, messiest poop in the history of bowel movements.  I go to change him, and realize as I’m peeling off his shirt, that poop has managed to travel all way up his back, and has even managed to reach his right sleeve and go down his arm!  So he won himself a nice bath before naptime.

How’s your morning going?

Too bad she couldn’t get any pictures for me to post :-P
